The flavonoid and essential oil components of arnica extract can improve the blood supply to the treated body surface, thus reducing rheumatic pain and complaints caused by muscle bruises, and promoting the absorption of bruises. These effects can be strengthened by beta-carotene. Extracts obtained from arnica inflorescences are often combined with extracts of other plants with anti-inflammatory, exfoliating and wound-healing effects (e.g. chamomile - Matricaria recutita, marigold - Calendula officinalis, St. John's wort - Hypericum perforatum) to enhance or supplement their beneficial therapeutic effects, and such preparations can be expected to have a more pronounced anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effect.
