In the traditional medicine of European peoples, the alcoholic extracts of the plant's leaves are used as an anti-rheumatic and analgesic rub, and can also be effective against hair loss. Rosemary leaves, flower-leaf shoots and essential oil are used in many countries in modern phytotherapy treatments.
When rosemary extracts or essential oil-containing preparations are applied externally, their skin-reddening, local circulation-enhancing and anti-inflammatory effects can be exerted, therefore they are used to produce products suitable for the additional treatment of rheumatic pain, neuralgia and sciatic nerve pain (bath and massage oils, bath salts, rubs, creams). In complex preparations, it is often combined with essential oils of other plants (e.g. lavender, Scots pine, eucalyptus, etc.) or with essential oil components with a skin-reddening and/or cooling effect (such as camphor and menthol), which favorably complement the indicated effects of rosemary essential oil and the known physiological and medicinal effects of massage.
